Title: Weather Diary 22 January 1936
Concept: Fargo Freezer Frolics
Detail: 22 January 1936: The winter of 1936 was another memorable winter through out much of the U.S. Fargo, North Dakota, which during the summertime likes to grow sugar beets could have been in the flash freezing business back then, as they had a period of almost two straight weeks when the temperature never rose above 0. But the nadir of this mini-Ice Age occurred on this date when the low of -37F was followed by a high of only -29F. At least in Fairbanks, Alaska, when its low temperatures are recorded, the wind is generally light. Here, the winds howling across the plain produced wind chills in the -70F to -80F level, making survival a questionable matter for those who dared venture outside.
