Title: Hurricane Warning
Concept: A hurricane is likely to strike within 36 to 48 hours in the warned area.
Detail: Atlantic and eastern Pacific hurricanes are closely monitored by NOAA's Tropical Prediction Center, located in the Miami, FL area. They have historically issued a hurricane warning when Category 1 or greater winds, with storm surges, high waves, torrential rains and flooding are a possibility within the next 36 hours...with lead times now up to 48 hours as a result of improved forecasting techniques. Preliminary preparations should begin in the anticipation of a possible warning. A proper response to a hurricane watch or warning is never panic. Only well thought out plans for timely action will save lives~and~property. A warning is an announcement that hurricane conditions (sustained winds of 74 mph or higher) are expected somewhere within the specified coastal area. Because hurricane preparedness activities become difficult once winds reach tropical storm force, the hurricane warning is issued 36 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical-storm-force winds.
