Title: Lightning Safety
Concept: Avoid contact with conducting objects during a thunderstorm.
Detail: Farmers, fishermen and golfers account for an enormously high percentage of lightning fatalities. In fact, lightning appears rather sexist in its choice of victims; 80 to 85% are men. A farmer on a metal tractor is a "sitting duck" for a lightning bolt. A golfer, especially one standing on wet grass with cleated shoes holding a golf club high in the air could not do anything to make himself a better candidate for a lightning strike. A fisherman sitting on a dock with a pole, particularly a metal one, is likely to catch more than a crappy. Other items to avoid when there is any electrical activity are: metal fences, plumbing, land line phones, clothes lines, railroad tracks, or any other object which can conduct electricity a long distance.
