|Title: Wind Chill and Your Car|
Concept: Winterize your car to lowest actual temperature expected.
Detail: Winter is probably despised by people
because of the effect on their automobile than any other single reason.
As we go into the autumn season, advertisements start appearing urging
you to winterize your car. It's a good idea! Being stranded on a rural
highway during a wind blizzard with wind chill factors of -50°, is
clearly a hazard to one's health. There is, however, a misconception
that you must winterize your car to the lowest wind chill factor
observed. That is totally incorrect. You should winterize your car with
anti-freeze only to the extent of the lowest possible temperature likely
to be observed where your car is. This could probably be determined by
taking the all time record low for your area and subtracting an
additional 5° for safety sake. No matter how strong the winds, it can
never lower the temperature of any object below the actual air temperature.
