Title: Weather Diary 8 May 1978
Concept: Spring snowstorms on the Front Range.
Detail: The front range of the Colorado Rockies is famous for its late spring snow storms. But even the hardiest residents were a bit taken aback by maybe the greatest spring snow ever in the region. Boulder, CO measured an impressive 27 inches, but they were by no means alone. Fort Collins to the north recorded 26 inches, Estes Park, in the higher country, reported 32 inches, Denver to the south 14 inches, and at Rabbit Ears Pass, high in the mountains, a fairly staggering 52 inches. But a reason for optimism in a May snow storm? - the strong sunshine and dry air causes the snow to disappear almost as quickly as it falls. Plus the enhanced snow pack means runoff for the farmers.
