|Title: Weather Diary 3 August 1885|
Concept: Philadelphia Tornado.
Detail: The skies turned dark and eerie, as a tornado spun an 8
mile pith through the Philadelphia area causing some damage and injuries.
Although not a serious tornado, it serves a reminder that as the tornado
season gradually wanes, twisters are still possible almost anywhere
across the United States. The approach of a hurricane often triggers a rash of
tornadoes in coastal areas, a phenomenon that may be experienced several
times in the next 8 to 12 weeks.
